Before applying

St Cecilia Wind Symphony performs 3-4 concerts per year in the Tonbridge and Sevenoaks area.

The orchestra does not meet for weekly rehearsals but typically schedules between two and three rehearsals of approximately 3 hours each over the weekend(s) preceding the concert.

Music is distributed to orchestra members in advance of rehearsals to be learned and fully prepared ahead of time. Rehearsals are scheduled not to learn pieces but

· to adapt to the Music Director’s interpretation, imagination, and vision;

· to deepen understanding of how individual parts contribute to the “oneness” of the orchestra;

· to develop cohesion and unified sound within each section and the orchestra;

· to refine phrasing, balance, blending, shaping, volume, tone, and other musical nuances;

· to enhance the ability to project an engaging and convincing musical narrative; and

· to ensure consistency of performance at a high artistic level in typically constantly changing and shifting musical landscapes.

Looking for a new, unique, and exciting musical adventure?

St Cecilia is always keen to attract talented players with a passion for wind band music. The orchestra performs challenging repertoire and so potential members should be of minimum Grade 6 standard, principals Grade 8 or higher.

Technical competence aside, the orchestra welcomes those who are musically and artistically curious and have the ability to connect empathetically with the music, fellow musicians, and audiences alike.

There is no formal audition; rather new members are given opportunity to prove their enthusiasm, determination, and commitment to self-improvement to keep themselves and SCWS at the peak of excellence.

Applicants are welcome to apply for positions in all sections. A seat may not be available immediately. However, promising applicants will be added to the “dep” list to be invited in the event of a vacancy or if additional players are required.

We currently have vacant seats in the following sections:

· French Horn

· Trumpet

· Trombone
